March 15, 12009 -- the Hawaiian Academy of Recording Arts (HARA) celebrates contributions made by 5 local music legends at its Lifetime Achievement Awards Luncheon at the Sheraton Waikiki. This year's honorees -- Cecilio & Kapono, The Sons of Hawai'i, Keola & Kapono Beamer, the late John Pi'ilani Watkins, and the late George Jarrett Helm -- have not only sold many records but have also touched our hearts and brought the Spirit of ALOHA to every corner of the world.
In honor of these legends, I will be posting series of articles about the life & music of each artist. Thank you HARA for recognizing the hard work and lasting contributions made by our local sons.
